HOMMAGE À MON PERE AU PORTUGAL
-
60x79cm, Oil on canvas
In this painting, I depict myself turned toward Norway, the cradle of my roots, while being firmly anchored in Portugal, the land of my artistic rebirth. The painting itself is a replica, a visual and emotional response to my father’s legacy and my personal quest for reconciliation between these two worlds. Clad in a traditional red Norwegian dress, I am surrounded by Portuguese houses, whose rooftops evoke a comforting warmth and sense of belonging. These visual elements converge to symbolize a delicate yet vibrant balance between two places rich with profound significance.
My father’s favorite flower, the sunflower, dominates the composition, enveloping my face in a protective light. A praying mantis, a symbol of faith and the connection between the visible and invisible, merges into this sunflower, representing the unconditional love that transcends loss. This spiritual symbol conveys my gratitude for what my father continues to represent: a silent guide and a source of inspiration that nurtures my life and my art.
